Hazard Mapping System
This Map was Last Updated...
The Analysed Fires from Satellites for Jul 24 were last updated on Jul 25 at 02:54 GMT. This is the Hazard Mapping System (HMS) fire and smoke product, made by a satellite analyst who quality checks the fire positions (red) and annotates visible smoke (gray). The analysts' shift runs from about 1-11pm EST/EDT. The first thing the analyst does is update the analysis for the previous day, to ensure it includes all fires detected for that calendar day. Then work begins on the current day's analysis, which will be updated periodically throughout the shift.
The GOES-3hr layer was last updated on Jul 25 at 03:10 GMT.** This layer is an accumulation of the most recent 3 hours of WF-ABBA data. Use this layer to see the most recent, active fires.
The GOES-24hr layer was last updated on Jul 25 at 03:10 GMT.** The Wildfire Automated Biomass Burning Algorithm (WF-ABBA) layer is updated with each GOES image (every 15-30 minutes). This layer contains detects from the last 24 hours.
The AVHRR layer was last updated on Jul 25 at 03:10 GMT.** The Fire Identification Mapping and Monitoring Algorithm (FIMMA) layer is updated with every daytime pass from NOAA's polar orbiting satellites with the proper channel from the AVHRR instrument turned on over the region of interest. This layer contains detects from the last 24 hours.
The MODIS layer was last updated on Jul 25 at 03:10 GMT.** The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) layer is updated with every new granule from the MODIS instrument over the region of interest. This layer contains detects from the last 24 hours.
The Fire Potential layer was last updated on Jul 24. Light blue areas (if any exist) are guidance fire weather forecast areas issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Storm Prediction Center. These forecasts are issued at 4am CST/CDT and are NOT updated. Please refer to your local NWS fire weather forecasts for the latest specific fire weather forecasts and red flag warnings.
**These automated layers are remade every 15 minutes. If no new data have been received, or no fires are detected, the shape file will eventually contain no fire detects.
